High Winds Fuel Grassfire Near Carpio

Rural fire fighters had their hands full today as high winds fueled a grass fire one mile east of Carpio Dale and Carolyn Graff were inside their house when they noticed smoke coming from the neighbors yard to the east Moments later fire was racing through the creek bottoms and dry grass towards their farm The Carpio Donnybrook and Berthold rural fire departments responded and were able to contain the grass fire in about a half our No buildings were damaged in the fast burning blaze Carolyn says they were worried that the fire would get into the stubble fields nearby and then continue down the valley Carolyn Graff Carpio Dale went and got the tractor immediately He tore home and got the tractor and cultivator and went out and I don t know where he went out in here He was cultivating between the areas trying to keep a break so the fire wouldn t get out and cross and go out over there and it could go up the valley pretty fast No one was injured the fire Fire crews think the blaze started from embers from a small controlled burn a few days before
