Spring planting has begun in parts on North Dakota Farmers in our part of the state are about ready to join in - but as Shaun Sipma reports it s not unusual for them to be a bit later than farmers elsewhere in the state By the blast of today s warm wind mother nature is signaling that time is almost right for farmers to head back out into the field Some producers to the North are already putting down nitrogen in preparation of planting Steve Erdman of Dakota Agronomy in Minot says moisture had a lot to do with conditions being ready in an area that s normally behind the rest of the state Steve Erdman Dakota Agronomy - Minot Some guys are anhydrousing Our Glenburn sight has been pretty busy It s more north of town than south of Minot Erdman says he expects many farmers around the state to be back behind the wheel within the week if the weather holds Erdman I was out looking at a few fields today and the weeds are starting to germinate Usually when they start to germinate we can start to look at it s probably okay to start seeding small grains or Canola As farmers look forward to another growing season they re doing so with lot s of optimism Erdman says growing prices for commodities are fueling the fever to get the crops in the ground Erdman Sunflower prices are good canola prices are good If we can get timely rains this spring and summer I think we re looking at some good opportunities However with the commodity price bloom the other side of the industry is also taking their fare share Erdman Right now anhydrous is up about 130 dollars a ton over last fall Erdman says with the Corn planting down south behind schedule because of weather many in the fertilizer industry are closely watching the supply chain hoping that Anhydrous deliveries don t fall behind schedule Erdman If they re able to go in the field they want to get at it Because when the time comes time means everything in getting the crops in the ground With Your Eye On Agriculture Shaun Sipma KX News
