Wilton Farmer Gets Some Help

This Wilton farmer says his crops would be a wreck if it wouldn t be for friends and Farm Rescue As you can imagine it s a busy time of year for farmers They re hustling to get their crops harvested But one Wilton Farmer has had to put his faith in others getting the job done for him As Donnell Preskey reports today he gets some big help It s the closest Wes Doepke has been to field work in almost two months 50 percent of his body was burned when his combine started on fire while he was harvesting his wheat Wes Doepke Injured Farmer I knew where I had to go and it wasn t where I was at I busted out of the combine and went through the fire and I came out It was all around He seen it the way the wind going Doepke just got home a week ago from Regions Burn Center His hands arms and chest all burned His days are now filled with therapy stretching his new skin It s hard to sit still when you re used to running every day He d rather be doing what he loves jumping up in the combine to cut his Soybeans something I used to do it s my job Today he watches as others work You miss the whole wheat harvest they sent videos down of all the combining couldn t even watch them Tough to explain Donnell Preskey It s a passion so many farmers have a hard time putting into words What it means to be part of this process from seeding to harvest To not be part of it is tough for Wes Things good we did a good job and then not to see it He s missed out on almost all of the harvest Friends have done most of the combining Farm Rescue is here to cut whats left Bill Gross Farm Rescue We got several calls from neighbors and businesses - saying Wes needed some help We decided to come help him so harvesting 1 000 acres of soybeans and pinto beans over several weeks Wes is still leary about getting into a combine right now He says he ll be healed up and ready to be in the field next year North of Wilton Donnell Preskey KX News Doepke says he can t believe all the help he s had A pancake feed recently raised seven thousand dollars for him Donnell will have more on Farm Rescue the non-profit organization that helps injured farmers and how they ve grown over the last couple years tomorrow night on KX News
