The 37th annual Ag Expo kicked off yesterday and farmers and ranchers have been gathering at the State Fair Center to gear up for the approaching spring season We found some visitors who are a little young to be driving a tractor or combine but not too young to learn about Agriculture Dan Erdmann has more Dan Erdmann KX News Many of us are used to waking up in the morning and pouring a bowl of cereal But do you know how those flakes or puffs got to your table Well that s just one of many questions answered at the Ag Expo s Living Ag Classroom The program gives area 4th graders a chance to see how their food gets from the farmer s fields to their homes and that s something that Living Ag presenters feel is very important Kathy Knatterud NDFU Field Staff We hope that they go home knowing that farmers have worked very hard for them to get their food and that it doesn t come off the grocery shelf and that it actually starts out at a farm right here in their state and I think that s imortant for them to know Dan Erdmann KX News A number of different commodity groups spoke to the elementary kids about topics like dairy nutrition soil composition and erosion The students made a lot of stops but they also picked up a lot along the way Aaron Sandy Perkett Elementary Student I learned about the wheats different kinds of wheats And I learned about what you would have to do to get the things you need to produce the crops Dan Erdmann KX News These youngsters may not have learned everything there is to know about agriculture but tonight at the dinner table they will remember how much time and work went into the food in front of them Dan Erdmann KX News
