Hard work and long hours are just part of ranching Sarah Gustin tells us about a few producers that are being recognized for their efforts Farmers and ranchers work hard each and everyday and don t always get the credit they deserve Even when they do get a pat on the back- they aren t always quick to brag Duane Scherr Rancher I guess it is an honor I guess it is somewhat of a surpirse because there are plenty other producers out there that are as deserving The North Dakota Simmental Association is recognizing Duane and Ed Scherr as the 2007 Commercial Cattlemen of the Year Doug Bichler of the NDSA nominated the Scherrs Bichler says the award recognizes commercial producers who are faithful to raising and promoting the breed Mike Kertzman Herdsman I was talking with the Steele Vet and they said it is an honor to do business with somebody that wins an award like that and I guess for myself it is an honor to work for them knowing that they take care of their stuff that way and that somebody else does appreciate that to The Scherr s have been using Simmental breeding for more than 30 years Scherr s raise 800 head of cattle They buy more than ten Simmental bulls each year Duane Scherr Rancher I guess like I said it as a surprise and yet an honor because the board of directors throughout the state nominated different people and they must of chose me The Scherrs were recognized with a plaque at the NDSA banquet Scherr says he has no plans of retiring Reporting for KX News I am Sarah Gustin Scherrs are the third recepient of this award
