More Wheat and Soybeans Being Planted This Spring

North Dakota farmers say they ll plant more spring wheat and soybeans and less corn The estimates were released today by the federal Agriculture Department Farmers in the state estimate they ll plant 6-point-9 million acres of spring wheat That s up 250-thousand acres from last year Durum acreage is expected to be up 11 percent to 1-point-65 million acres And the state s winter wheat estimate is up 40 percent from last year to 650-thousand acres The state s corn acreage is estimated at 2-point-25 million acres That s down 12 percent from last year s record Soybean acreage is expected to be up 16 percent from last year to an estimated 3-point-5 million acres Oil sunflowers are projected to be up 1 percent to an estimated 920-thousand acres the highest since 2003 North Dakota s barley acreage is expected to be up 5 percent to 1point-5 million acres
