Shaun Sipma KX News The landscape of North Dakota is quickly changing from green to gold and a few farmers are now breaking back into their field for harvest South of Ryder Wendall Hanson was swathing barley this afternoon his first field of the season Wendell Hanson Farms Near Ryder We just starting swathing now It s nice and even Hanson says many fields in the area are still a few days from being ready to harvest but this was his first planted this spring he s counting on it to make the malting grade Wendell Hanson Farms Near Ryder I think it will but a lot of them further west is only weighting 29 pounds Shaun Sipma KX News With this being the first field of the season for Hanson he says optimism remains high regardless of the dry conditions that went into spring planting Wendell Hanson Farms Near Ryder And then of course it got dry And by golly they say we re going to get rain every night but then we get 10-hundreths At 83 and still running strong behind the wheel Hanson has kept his sense of humor when it comes to mother nature He says it makes it a lot easier to climb back into the cab of the tractor or combine regardless of what s in the field This field so far is fairing well but as longtime man of the land he s already shifting his focus onto other fields Wendell Hanson Farms Near Ryder Canola looks good the durum looks a little shaky but the barley very good of course we don t know until we get in there Hanson hopes the June rains and recent moisture will finish out the fields that are nearly ready to put in the bin South of Ryder with Your Eye On Agriculture Shaun Sipma KX news
