Storms Bring Heavy Rain and Damage

Many farmers in McLean County woke up this morning to nothing Nothing left of their crops Today those farmers are assessing the damage to see what if anything can be done for hailed out crops Clayton Clark has the latest on the damage left behind by mother nature Clayton Clark KX News It s morning many McLean County farmers weren t looking forward to After last night s heavy rain strong wind and in some places tennis ball size hail many new there would be a lot of crop damage to assess Jim Lee Farmer I had a loss a couple years ago they adjusted at 75 and it wasn t nearly as bad as this I m thinking this area of the field west of the yard here is probably at least 80 or better between 80 and 100 you know so Clayton Clark KX News That s the case with many fields in the Max Garrison area Reports have been any where between 3 to 5 inches of rain and wind speeds above 50 miles an hour It has many wondering what to do now Chris Gratton Garrison Farmer s Union GM Everybody s in a state of wonder They want to get out there and see what everything looks like The later crops the sunflower and some of the Corn that maybe got more of the rain and less of the hail this round this is going to help a little Over all the crops are hurting they just don t know where they re at yet Clayton Clark KX News Many farmers don t have to do too much wondering as long as they have one thing insurance Chris Gratton Garrison Farmer s Union GM This year I think a good chunk of them insured With the cost of inputs that we have to put in these crops these days they couldn t afford not to insure them and insurance was up quite a bit too probably by a third this year so I hope everybody did I think everybody had pretty good coverage Clayton Clark KX News Gratton says it could take a few weeks to complete the assessment process Until there s not a whole lot farmers can do From McLean County Clayton Clark KX News
