The North Central Research Extension Center South of Minot has been and continues to be an invaluable source of information and and ideas for farmers across the region on everything from new crop varieties to treating weed disease and and insect problems To continue on with their mission the Center is welcoming two new Agricultural specialists Jeremy Pederson and Shana Pederson Jeremy Pederson NCREC Area Extension Specialist it s coming home for me since growing up close by Minot s always been kind of a homebase Jeremy Pederson a native of Ray North Dakota will be taking over the reins as the Area Extension Specialist in cropping systems Pederson s background in Agriculture is ideal for the Research Center to fill the shoes left behind by Kent McKay Pederson earned his Bachelor of Science in Crop and weed sciences and Masters in Plant Sciences at NDSU and recently worked at NDSU s Plant Sciences in Fargo Jeremy Pederson NCREC Area Extension Specialist That s kind of the key things is to be able to establish the relationships with our county agents and our producers and our grower groups out there to keep that information flow from our state specialists and our ag experiment station that pertinent information readily available to producers and everybody involved in agriculture can make well involved decisions As luck would have it Jeremy won t have to worry about going it alone at the Research Center his wife Shana Pederson is just next door Shana was also just added as the Assistant Pulse Crop Breeder Shana Pederson Assistant Pulse Crop Breeder I will be making selections in the field assistant breeder making selections looking for any disease problems insect problems in the advanced lines Shana a native of Mandan also received her Bachelor of Science in crop and weed sciences and plant protection and her masters in plant breeding and genetics from NDSU Shana Pederson Assistant Pulse Crop Breeder This is what I went to school for and this is what I ve always wanted to do With harvest winding down the new research data coming in and the winter ag show season right around the corner the Pederson s have hit the ground running and hope to help farmers across the region with their knowledge and research for years to come A welcome addition to the North Central Research Extension Center South of Minot With Your Eye On Agriculture Shaun Sipma KX News
