The recent flooding washed away alot of soil The Emergency Watershed Protection Program is helping producers get flood damaged land back to it s natural state You put the land into a 99 year easement plan Depending on the county that the land is located in you will be paid between 470 to more than 2000 dollars an acre Any land that has flooded once in the last 12 months or two times in the last 10 years can be submitted Todd Hagel Assistant State Conservationist andamp quot It will give us an additional amount of flood plain where the waters can go out to it and reduce the amount of flooding down stream In addition to that it will reduce sedimentation on the ground because of the enhancement that we have or the protection that we have to those flood plains andamp quot If any of your Environmental Quality Incentive Program projects were damaged NRCS has more than 2 million dollars to help with repairs Grass seedings tree plantings even fences that were designed under the EQUIP program that were damaged by water are avilable for the funding Jennifer Heglund Assistant State Conservationist andamp quot There is a breath of different conservation practices that have been put on the land but unfortunately this spring flood waters have indidated those practices made made them not effective andamp quot To sign up for either of the program s funding you should visit your local NRCS office The Emergency Watershed Protection deadline is May 1st You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for any EQUIP funding
