Have you ever wondered what you would buy if you won the lottery Well Tioga High School may not have hit the jackpot but thanks to school district oil leases in Mountrail County they have a lot more money to spend the only catch is the time in which they can spend it Dan Erdmann reports Dan Erdmann KX News It s a problem most people would envy and one that Tioga High School administrators are more than happy to deal with Todd Lee Tioga High School Principal andamp quot It all started last spring when we were able to get some money through some oil impact and we kind of got under a timeline in terms of some renovations and some money that needed to be spent and we kind of went to work with some projects and ideas We surveyed the teachers and other personnel and basically put out a wish list andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News A wish list they ve been working hard to fill D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot Everything from roofs to concrete to gym floors Todd Lee Tioga High School Principal andamp quot We ve replaced most of the exterior doors in the building D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot Windows heating systems Todd Lee Tioga High School Principal andamp quot We ve done some major improvements in our library replaced carpet D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot Books desks all kinds of things andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News In all Tioga s share of school district oil leases adds up to around 1 75 million dollars Portions of that money have helped much of the school receive a new coat of paint along with some new lockers and bathrooms Renovations to the school s science lab are also nearing completion D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot We still have some projects that aren t completed but I m confident that by the time the snow flies we ll have it finished That will give us the rest of the winter to make plans for the upcoming summer andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News Another project giving a boost to the school s already revamped ag department is the new greenhouse Principal Todd Lee says the facility will add many options to Tioga s class schedule Todd Lee Tioga High School Principal andamp quot We re going to build our cirriculum a little bit around that greenhouse and that s going to be a great improvement for not only our building but most importantly our kids andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News Speaking of kids the high school is seeing more of those as well Superintendant D Wayne Johnston says their enrollment has increased between 5 and 10 percent an uncommon trend in small town North Dakota D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot As most North Dakota rural schools tend to decline we see that as a really positive thing andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News He says the only negative has been finding contractors available to do the work But despite those few challenges administrators agree this is one obstable they don t mind overcoming D Wayne Johnston Tioga High School Super andamp quot We just feel very fortunate at this point in time andamp quot Todd Lee Tioga High School Principal andamp quot It s a nice problem to have and it s certainly going to be well taken by the community and the students andamp quot Dan Erdmann KX News In Tioga Dan Erdmann KX News Classes began in Tioga on August 20th and administrators hope to have most of the current renovations completed within the next few weeks
