Abandon Farm Burns West of Minot

Fire Crews from Minot Rural and Burlington had their hands full tonight as a fire at an abandon farm on the southwest edge of Minot went up in flames At around 7 30 tonight a fire was reported just west of the YMCA Fire quickly spread throughout the farmstead that is no longer used At least two building a large chicken coupe and a house were consumed and destroyed Several others appeared to be damaged along with hay bales around the property Embers from the fire also sparked smaller fires to the east in fields next to 16th Street and the YMCA A west wind and access to the site because of muddy fields and a slough were hampering efforts to keep the fire under control Firefighters are still on site putting out hot spots There s no indication yet on what may have started the blaze According to the Ward County Sheriff s Department the owner of the property lives in Duluth Minnesota and none of the buildings have been used for some time
